This type of heron is migratory and wintering in Africa. Except for nesting, the Danube serves as a corridor during the spring and autumn migrations. Due to the drying up of swamps and wetlands and habitat loss, the Little Egret is threatened as well as all the other birds that nest in these areas. However, thanks to the construction of ponds, the abundance of this species is now estimated at 800 pairs.
