This South American rodent made sure not to have an ideal situation on the Danube! This non-European semi-aquatic species miraculously crept into our fauna, finding a very favorable habitat for reproduction. The main habitat in Serbia is the Danube, which allows easy living for this species – lots of food, hiding places and protection from enemies. High reproduction of this large South American rat threatens to jeopardize any aquatic ecosystem, even as strong as the Danubian.
